Casting is complete for the previously announced American premiere of the jazz and blues musical The City Club, which will begin previews April 3 at off-Broadway’s Minetta Lane Theatre. Opening night is set for April 23. Directed by Mitchell Maxwell, The City Club features music and lyrics by James Compton, Tony DeMeur and Tim Brown and a book by Glenn M. Stewart.
The new musical will star Kristen Martin (Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark) as Crystal Labelle, Andrew Pandaleon (The History of War) as Chaz Davenport, Ana Hoffman (Dreamgirls) as Maddy, Peter Bradbury (Mrs. Warren's Profession) as The Lieutenant and Kenny Brawner (The Total Bent) as Parker Brown (9 to 5) with Autumn Guzzardi as Rose. The cast also features Kaitlin Mesh (West Side Story) as Lily, Patrick O’Neill (On a Clear Day...) as Jacobus “Jake” Olsen, Emily Tyra as Candy (Hugh Jackman, Back on Broadway) and Robert J. Townsend (Mamma Mia!) as Prince Royale.
Set after Prohibition in 1934, The City Club tells the story of Charles “Chaz” Davenport, the privileged son of a corrupt family whose vice grip on their city is as tight as it is inescapable. Obsessed with music and the people who write it, play it, sing it and worship it, Chaz opens The City Club. The musical originally premiered at the Edinburgh International Festival.
The creative team of The City Club includes choreographer Lorin Latarro, scenic designer Rob Bissinger, costume designer David C. Woolard, lighting designer David F. Segal and sound designer Carl Casella.
